Pretty standards

For a long time when training people about web design I have constantly been approached with one main query. The query is around the look of web standards websites and inparticular the organisational ones campaigning for web standards and accessibility. To be honest, it has become both a little embarressment and also a point of contention. Most of the people I end up teaching are designers first and as such approach things from a visual point of view. These people do not initially perceive what can be done with standards and that by adopting them there is no loss of design. The main reason really was the design and visual quality of the before mentioned websites.

Validation made simple

Yes it might be another of those finally got around to thingies, but today remembered to install a nice little addon for firefox and therefore flux. It comes in the form of a web developer extension from chrispederic.com. Basically it provides you with a range of testing tools and validation plus more. Simple click to remove images, css and then validate both. Really like it – sort of knew I would but never got around to it. Time to look to pimp my safari to the equivilant me thinks.

Revolution by action

An article in my newsfire inbox caught my attention today from Malarkey titled Advocating the quiet revolution. The upshot of this is rather than whining on about people standing in the way of web standards and the revolutions on the web; just do it and let the bonus effects speak for themselves.
