October is here and it can mean only one thing … the web is about to turn pink again. Pink for October is an event started a few years ago aimed at turning sites pink to raise awareness of breast cancer. This year Matthew Oliphant asked me to do the theme for the event’s site again and I’ve also turned Diary of a website pink as you can see.

Turn yourself pink

I always enjoy seeing the different variations on ‘pink’ that people turn their sites and I’d love to hear in the comments if any of you are going pink this year. It’s a great cause that needs to have more focus and it’s a great way of not only refreshing your blog design but showing support. Even if you don’t turn your site pink there are a range of other ways on the Pink for October site you can join in by donating, adding a button to your site or even contributing an article.

Pink marks a change in branding

I’m still working out a few kinks around here but have the first stage up of my complete re-branding of both this blog and also Logical Binary (only one page currently more coming over the next week). I’m going to write a post once the dust and prodding has settled on both sites about why I’ve chosen this direction and the process I went through. The main catalyst though was to get a consistent branding across both this blog and my company site and bring the blog into a more active element of Logical Binary rather than having them as separate entities. I hope you like the new direction. Espresso the Diary of a website tumblr blog has also had a redesign and is still a good place to get a usually daily shot of posting.

Farewell woofbarkwag

As part of all these changes I’m also stopping posting on Woofbarkwag. Whilst it’s been great running that blog for a few years now the time has come to focus what oddly little time I seem to have lately onto this blog and some other new things and I’m afraid that means Woofbarkwag is a bit of a casualty of that in being closed down. I’m going to leave it up and do a closing down post soon but it’s already left 9rules and apart from my last post there won’t see anymore updates. Whilst shutting down a site is not always a good thing this time I think it is as I simply wasn’t doing it justice and it was distracting from updating other sites. I’m really happy about the choice I’ve made and look to the future with this blog.

As many of you will know I was part of Pink for October last year both as a participant and designer of the site. The pinkness that is this event during breast cancer awareness month, was started by Matthew Oliphant and last year a whole host of sites turned pink to raise awareness. When Matt asked me this year if I’d like to get involved I didn’t have to think twice. I’ve been madly busy but he’s been patient and the new design should be out really soon. Along with this I plan on releasing a variant of the site’s design as a word press theme.

If you didn’t get swept up by the events of last October, it’s basically all about turning your site pink in as much or little as you want. Some people just change their backgrounds or add a badge, others go whole hog with a total redesign. Last year saw some amazing sites and some great themes released, it proved the point that pink was a colour that could work well on any site and also that a group of people could raise awareness of something by doing something as simple as changing the colour of their site. There was an insane number of people and the logging of people who had signed up had to stop at 500. This year though thanks to Zach Inglis coming on board there is an automated system which means everyone who goes pink gets a mention on the site.

As many of you may have noticed I’ve been slower than usual theme and blog wise. I’ve briefly mentioned before some health issues and having a lot of work on. One of these health issues involved a cancer scare, I was lucky and although I do have some illnesses which turned up it was not cancer. As a result, this years Pink for October has a bit more of a personal motivation to me (there was already a lot of motivation for me as I think it’s a very important cause and a great event). I will be sorting a new or nearly new theme out for this site also just for October – it will probably be loosely based on the theme I will be releasing and if you know me it will be tweaked.

I encourage everyone to go and check the site out and once registration is there get your pinkness on. There are many other ways you can get involved. You could release a pink theme for a blogging system, could make a pink badge, there is a whole long list of things you can do over at the site. At the moment unconfirmed but possibly there will also be an auction part to the site where people can offer there services for donations to breast cancer awareness. So, what are you waiting for? It’s only a few weeks to go and let the pinkness begin ;) Let’s turn the web a brighter shade for a month and raise awareness for this important issue for men and women. This year you can also follow the activities through the twitter p4o stream.

Diary of a website has offically gone pink for october. The reason for all this pinkness is to bring attention to breast cancer during this month. Thanks to Matthew Oliphant the web is a pinker place for one month. Breast cancer is such a worthwhile cause and if you’d like to find out more you can by going to the pink for october site where there is building up a range of real life testaments about breast cancer. It’s a great idea and one I couldn’t wait to get involved in.

This latest flavour is called strawberry and as always you can select past flavours by just clicking the drop down box. If it’s not all pink then just select strawberry and all will be well. I hope you all enjoy the pink and with strawberry I’ve revisited some of my past styling from lime slightly. I still plan as usual to bring out another flavour in November with a bit of luck. This is an additional flavour in-between seasons just for this great cause.
