Let the 80s die already
I admit to being old enough to remember the 80s the first time around. It started with me being 5 and ended with me being 15 so the 80s did hang over my entire childhood. The first time around things like rah-rah skirts, leopard print and leggings seemed harmless enough. I remember my cooler (she seemed so cool to me) cousin being into Adam and the ants and playing me records when we’d go around to visit. I even recall listening to Blonde and other such bands at hers as she was approaching her 20s by the end of the 80s so spanned that nostalgic period of music. I have tried to forget her brief foray into Wham and Duran Duran.
Music of the month
A little late is the monthly round up of what is coming from my speakers this month. This month I finally managed to get my hands on some music that I had been meaning to get for a while. Here are the ones that have been on repeat this month.
Music of the month
Time for a monthly music sum up. It has been a mixed bag month where I found a lot of my old music. These entires focus on the new gems I found though. This month has seen a fair few good releases that I have been waiting a bit of time for which I have found to not be disappointed by. I have noticed that I am getting affected by the summer a coming with this selection. So, get an iced coffee and will the sun to come out of the grey clouds, lie back and dream of warmer days just a unpredictable UK weather cycle away. So, this month I have been mostly listening to:
- ZERO 7 : THE GARDEN : Gorgreous remix of Jose Gonzalez’s crosses, summer floaty laid back afternoon, now all i need is some sunshine. The intro song of Futures really takes you to that summer place. Jose’s voice was made for Zero 7’s music.
Proof europe is nuts
As if we didn’t need any proof that we are all nuts in Europe, may I announce with shame the winner of the EuroVision song contest 2006 as LORDI with their little ditty “Hard rock hallelujah”. I will be in the corner muttering and looking through an atlas to find a different continent to emigrate to.
Summer Music
Summer is truly here this week in England and I even heard an ice-cream van today. While killing my bank balance I found a summer music gem in Emiliana Torrini. Her sound is like running through tall summer grasses and being a kid rolling down a summer hill. Like a Bjork that makes sense and doesn’t make your ear drums bleed. Sit back sipping an iced latte and watching the sunlight bathing your stress away.
Music that fell down the back of the sofa
I had set myself two objectives organisation wise this year. One of those is to take all my music on computers and off and put into one organised space on a portable hard drive. As part of this process, I am slowly going through the CDs both my husband me own and put them on the hard drive. I have been on and off starting to do this over the past few months and gradually getting there. One nice side effect of this process is the discovering of music I had forgotten I liked. I thought I would share a few gems with you that I am rediscovering and their significance in my life if any. This may even become a bit of a mini feature depending on how much I go “wow why did I not play that very often” or how much I end up going “did I really buy that and what exact planet was my brain on at the time”.
