Today the project I’ve been working on as designer for the past few months has launched. So what is thoof? I’ll let this post from Ian Clarke the founder explain it:

“Personalized user generated news that you can edit. Ever wished that Digg could figure out what you were interested in, and adapt automatically to your tastes? Ever wish that you could edit a story on Digg to make it more accurate? Ever wished Digg had proper tagging? Thoof, a new website from the founders of Freenet and Revver, could be the answer to those wishes”

Thoof can be found at thoof.com. I’m really pleased I was taken on as contract designer over there and it’s been a great project to be part of. It’s an interesting idea of combining many different features into one application. Check it out and I’ll see you around there posting stories and editing them. It’s very rare I comment about websites I’ve worked on over here but this project really has grabbed me as something special and thought it was worth sharing.

Today I finally got around to launching woofbarkwag. Currently it doesn’t have any real design and this oddly feels right for this blog. I had gotten to the point where I always get with my worst client (that being me) where I was not happy with anything. So, to actually launch the blog before Dillion was a year old I decided to do away with actually designing it for now and strip to the bare minimum – hence the version that has gone live. It is also nice as this allows me time to ponder the design a bit and get it right rather than the usual thing that happens with my own designs and poking and prodding it within a week of going live.

The main blog is live now at woofbarkwag.com and everyone is welcome with a forum coming relatively soon so people can get their own dog tails up and running. I have a lot of content I want to put up on the site and this will be the main focus for the rest of this month with further updates happening slowly but surely as it settles in.

Some of the first things I actually want once the design is done include the forum, flickr group and getting people to join in the project. I am looking forward to doing this one slowly and seeing where it goes and very glad it’s finally started rolling. Life caught up with me over the past few weeks and I even took a break (first time in a year or so) to recharge and get ready for a good few months of freelance insanity again. Taking time out focuses you and one thing I realised was that I needed to just start blogging on woofbarkwag and worry about the design later. Content is the key for this and having this minimal design reflects that. It’s even giving me ideas for the final design itself which isn’t going to be so minimal but I do want to be subtle and not a themed or overly designed layout.

If you check it out I would love to know what you think over time so please subscribe, comment and enjoy.
