WIth the new website design by Bryan Veloso of Avalonstar fame, Flock has come back on the radar in a major way. In my application hold, Flock has been residing in a state of intermittent use for several versions. When I first tried Flock, my review was good. The main problem I had was that I didn”t use a wordpress or any other premade blog / CMS like drupal. So, the concept of ‘creating one place’ for my entire online social activities wasn’t really achievable. Recently, I have been fiddling about with the newer version of Flock which now has a great FLICKR interface. My own Logical Blog interface has also developed with the recent upgrade version I created for my reboot. As I began thinking about moving over I had an idea (and yes it did hurt and is dangerous so I try not to do too often). The idea was simple, to split my browser usage between to definite areas of my life and how I use the web.
Now we all can see if our sites and the work arounds for hacks are actually going to work in IE 7. Yep, microsoft has released IE 7 beta 2 into the world. Along with this comes the developer checklist. Time for some eyes shut checking of sites and dentist type agony for all - hopefully not.
As the website says “the flock has landed!” So what is flock and what is all the flock about (couldn’t resist). Flock is on the surface a browser. I suddenly see people rather uninterested. This though doesn’t appear to be the end of it. For starters there is direct linking without the need for extensions to most of the usual blogs, de.li.cious and flickr. It’s all done in a rather grand fashion from what the developer release of Flock shows.
Today I have been reduced to a ball of rage again by that ultimate of swear fit inducing web design activity - browser compatability. I seriously think someone should start some kind of web designer support group. It could be called browser crisis, they could even develop a pixel release therapy. Plaster an Internet Explorer logo onto a bobo doll and we’d have a very valid web designer stress relief.
