I had a rather odd incident occur yesterday where someone has claimed woofbarkwag (my blog about dogs) to be their site and set up a facebook group for it. I won’t be linking as trying to get this shut down. This incident brought home to me again the importance of your online presence and what is associated with your blogs.
I was doing the weekly shopping and noticed my trolley contents. I was struck by the look of it as for some reason I had managed to co-ordinate my trolley contents. It was 8am in the morning so maybe I needed more coffee, but it stuck me how as a consumer I am a sucker for good package design. It’s one thing that I seem to have fallen right into judging by my trolley. I also noted how on the shelves the design of packages seemed really interesting. I love it how a mundane experience can be made well just be seeing some good design. I now have another place for inspiration and if you see some mad woman wandering about the isles gazing you know it’s just me getting design inspiration.
One of the hardest things I personally find to do is actually brand myself. With the move back to freelance this is something I have faced head long over the past few weeks. I always have a huge amount of "uh oh" about this whole process. This time has proven to not be any different.
Currently I am drawing to the end of a redesign for the company I work for. It is of course within the boundaries of the already established corporate branding that this company has. As a result the design that I came up with a while ago was confined and restricted. I always find those type of sites harder when I guess in theory they should be easier. When designing for the web there are of course certain confined that you work in ranging from browser, platform and language limitations. Those exact limitations I was talking to a junior today about infact. However, I find that when you combine these with creating a design to a strict format and branding the task becomes a great more difficult.
A while ago you could not move for the word branding. Today amongst many it is considered a normal consideration. There are the rare few though that appear to have not come around to the cult of branding. To me it is pretty much a no brainer with regards to branding. We are surrounded by branding and have been for a while. Marketing is based on the ideals historically from the notion of branding.
