If you’ve got a cold, listen to the muppets
I’m snotty, grumpy and other not named dwarfs – what else is there to do but watch some muppets.
Part of design is stepping away from the pixels.
In design one of the hardest things I ever had to learn was the art of when to stop designing. Naturally, I am a bit of a control freak and never pleased by anything – I am a life long bar raiser and always put the most pressure on myself. Knowing when to stop poking to pixels before it’s a layer too far is something that takes time to do. Just as in life, as you get older you learn to let go more – in design you have a similar growth process. The more you do, the more you know when something is done and avoid the always will end in bad things over working.
That’s good design, I’d buy that.
I was doing the weekly shopping and noticed my trolley contents. I was struck by the look of it as for some reason I had managed to co-ordinate my trolley contents. It was 8am in the morning so maybe I needed more coffee, but it stuck me how as a consumer I am a sucker for good package design. It’s one thing that I seem to have fallen right into judging by my trolley. I also noted how on the shelves the design of packages seemed really interesting. I love it how a mundane experience can be made well just be seeing some good design. I now have another place for inspiration and if you see some mad woman wandering about the isles gazing you know it’s just me getting design inspiration.
You want ‘what’ as a colour scheme?
You can’t always choose what colour scheme you are using. Clients have existing branding that you often have to work with. You might in your eyes see it as not working but you can’t just reject a client on the basis of their colour scheme (not if you want to have clients). The ‘how the heck do I make that work’ is one of those things at some point you are going to utter at a client colour scheme.
Site update: Bye bye mr forum, hello 9rules notes
Just to let you all know I’ve removed one feature being the forum from this site. It was something I’ve been thinking about for a while and with the advent of the new 9rules and take off over at the notes I think that it’s best to remove the forum on my site. I’d like to thank everyone that did register though and sorry for removing if that upsets anyone.
It’s not big, it’s not clever and singing coming from the pub makes you look an idiot – you will care in the morning
I don’t really think I need to say anymore… perhaps “SHUT UP!’ loudly out of the window would stop it. The teenage chavs appear to have older brothers and sisters that are running the gauntlet between pubs singing ditties out of tune. I think I just heard the old favourite ‘laaa deeee WE ARE rrrrr aaaaa gggggg’. Sometimes living in a village with 4 pubs and on the road between them is a bad idea.
