Coffee review : creamy pleasure

I always have meant to get a good coffee maker but after a run of buying cheap ones due to funds lacking gave up and for a while have been trying out various instant coffee types. I still dream of a few great coffee making machines that are on my list but when things stop breaking that are more crucial than a coffee maker I will purchase (yes there are some more basic needs than coffee I hate to admit it and they keep blooming well breaking). As part of this in the growing market I find myself often trying new and varying methods of instant coffees. None as yet have got up to the real coffee through a good maker, but until I get enough to get one I will be opting for this method.

I like my coffee flavoured and therefore, the quality of the bean isn’t always so important (I have my favourites but when you have flavoured coffee often the instant options are more than palettable) along with the brew – flavourings in coffee often ruin a good coffee bean and I would rather drink those without flavours to enjoy the proper flavour. I thought I would start reporting my findings with these instant coffees as there are more and more coming onto the market. The first of these is one I picked up today with a rather ‘innovative’ method of making it. The coffee is Douwe Egberts new creamy pleasure switch.

To describe the flavour would be, slightly nutty / coconut more than tiramisu flavour. Definitely creamy and a subtle rather than kick in head indulgent warming coffee. I think it’s one of those at the end of a hard day coffees or when you just want something coffee decadent rather than chocolate. Like a nice rich belgian melting chocolate. I infact can’t eat anything but dark chocolate due to migraines and this gave me the same sensation I remember from a really mellow creamy chocolate – a good thing in my book.

As for the thumbs, well considering my coffee habit this coffee will be more of a treat due to the risk of repetitive strain injury. They say press firmly, what they don’t say is that to get the desired effect you are talking about several minutes of thumb pressing akin to playing a frenzied game on the x-box. At least my thumbs have had a good work out and the dogs enjoyed the sound. If you can get over the ridiculousness of combining a thumb gym with coffee making and don’t have your own coffee maker or just can’t be bothered cleaning one, this is a great indulgent instant coffee hit.

There are 2 more flaovurs I will be trying out and will duly report their outcome. On the whole, it’s not a drink all the time coffee as would also be a bit sickly, it’s more of a moment to yourself down time coffee indulgence. I can’t help thinking adding some whipped cream and chilling would also be something these need to be tried with in the summer and actually being warm may be reducing the impact of these. They do seem more of a frappucino coffee blend than a heated drink.
