Out of date UK web reporting

Last night the frustration of how out of date the UK web reporting is, became drummed into my eyeballs with the BBC News 24 Click program content – only click the link if you like muttering. Here are listed some of the gloriously up the minute contents.

  • The hot ‘new’ topic of accessibility with the great tip that if your site is more accessible it’s quicker for non-disabled web users also. Wow, you don’t say. The coverage of this was so dumbed down I was thinking of lobotomizing myself with my lighter to stop the groaning.
  • The ‘new’ social web 2.0 sites that read like a list from some ancient web time capsule.
  • The ‘new’ languages CSS (wtf repeated many times along with much coughing and spluttering of coffee along with more head bashing on the wall)
  • The ‘new’ must read Pas 78 (eh? At this point I was starting to feel like I’d time warped backwards).
  • Pod-casts being the new black (yes, I did give up after that).

This horrendous program is sadly one of the few, in-fact only one on terrestrial TV that covers the web. It makes you ashamed to be British it really does. I was waiting for them to tell me of the brand ‘new’ animated gifs technology. The program and presenters were full of wannabe geekisms and was about as accessible as a wheelchair ramp made out of jelly. It was jammed packed full of so many inaccuracies I was reduced to shouting at the TV by the end and rolling my eyes with the end credits. I really think the time has come for something less 90s and more real regarding the UK TV web coverage. If you ever get the chance to watch it just don’t bother unless you like TV rage.
