Zen and the art of catching a daddy long legs

I have just spent the past 3/4 hour trying to catch a rather feisty daddy long legs in my study. Aside from the fact that the number of these seems to have gone off the scale, my husband has thought it would be great fun to teach our dogs to eat them – not that they needed much teaching and yes, much wall running into does ensue frequently. To try and get some sleep I made it my mission to save this particular insect who has come into the house of labradors unaware of the furry perils waiting for him.

This insect proceeded to potter about my study showing my cleaning skills up by collecting a nice length of dust that dangled from him. Eventually, I did manage to catch him and release him into the dark windy void of the village. It did require a lot of upping and downing from my seat and various implements were tried and tested in this capture (note to not attempt the Blackberry box as a capture device again). The good old glass and paper won in the end and the night can now bring sleep rather than a puppy bouncing off the walls trying to capture the not so tasty but oh so moving thing.

  1. Yes, I have a similar problem in my house with my kittens. Kittens being what they are anyway and attracted to anything that moves so much of a millimeter, this years glut of daddylonglegs has provided me with much amusement of them rushing around, attempting to somersault, and occassional falling off sofa action.

This was all great until the latest daddylonglegs decided to to try and land on me and I was attacked. Summarily both daddylonglegs and aforementioned kittens are placed outside now to save my feet and legs from further attack.
