Blog Club : Apple

This fortnight’s Blog Club is focusing on Apple. The Apple Community at 9rules is a good resource for all things mac. I have always had a mac in the house for a while now. I remember first seeing the beige rectangle good old macintosh with the rainbow apple and being interested in the features which always seemed so more advanced than the windows ones of that time. The range of macs that have inhabited the living space in our house included one g4 un-lovingly called the paperweight as it was a refurbishment that was broken more times than a greenhouse during a stone throwing competition. Despite this burp in our mac journey we have now almost 100% moved over for both mine and my husband’s machines. The windows box has been confined to a dusty corner of the office and only occasionally gets turned on to shout at.

I am officially in love with my 17″ powerbook that I have had a few months now. It’s settled in nice and never given me a moment of trouble bar a slightly flakey space bar. Proof of how much I have been smitten with the mac comes from the saga that I had to go through to actually get this powerbook. A short story from a long one is 2 dead 15″ powerbooks and the result was an Apple apology and sending of the 17″. It was refreshing that Apple stood by me through this and did deliver in the end. The mac Os X is refreshing after having been forced to use windows machines at work for so long. My background is in Linux and to me the Mac Os X is great as you don’t have to think or in the case of windows out think your operating system. It works, does the job and doesn’t grumble about it at inappropriate moments. That is my experience with macs. I also love the range of software you can get for the macs and often that means great free-ware or low priced ware.

This time was not only the blog club focus on Apple and all things mac, it was also the time for the WWDC Conference (Apple worldwide developer conference). During this time there was a keynote by Steve Jobs (Apple CEO) which included some great insights into the new Mac Os X Leopard. A nice quick summary comes care of SchwarzTech.
