It has been a really long time since I watched a non animated film that I actually liked. I keep finding a lot of films really bland and formulaic, like the life has been sucked out of them using a zombie producer with a big straw. I had the dubious pleasure of watching Doom and found myself more interested in working out the shopping list for the next day. Believe me considering my husband is on a wheat, gluten and diary free diet and I am waiting on a website payment, this is hardly the most exciting shopping list unless rice and beans are your thing. I sort of expected a formulaic bland bang bang shoot the monster in the head film from Doom, infact that is not a bad thing in my book. The thing was they chucked out the story and decided that a good route would be to water down Resident Evil, add a dash of comedy in an animated game effect sequence and then ruin it all by casting a combination of wrestling rejects and wannabe actors along with the special effects team that needed their eyes tested.
I do agree that my tastes in film are not possibly the same as a lot. My preference has always been for animation and also Asian cinema such as Korean or Japanese. That being said I simply do like a good film and feel currently that any good film would be a start. There seems a lack of solid food stuff amongst film lately. It’s all plan and carefully tailoured to the tastes of a non existant middle road. This is not a generalisation as I fully recognise the odd gems there have been in the past few years. The thing is that this is getting such an oddity that I am starting to feel like giving up on any film not in my chosen category. To me, this would be a shame as I like being suprised and finding different films outside my watching zone. I keep on watching these supposidly recommended incredible films willing them to make me take my words and eat like popcorn. Put it this way, if I was at all peekish for popcorn I would be seriously lacking in the buttery word eating area.
It can’t be that all the films have been done and I certainly am not old enough to be having some nostalgia trip in harking back to the days of ole. All of these drone films just makes it a shame and to appear that the film industry is attempting a pebble dashing doggy doo throwing attempt in a vain hope of striking filmic genius. So far, they appear to be hitting anywhere bar the target and landing themselves with a floor of doo and stinking up the place with titles that should be straight to a market DVD seller.
I feel like there is nothing for it but to again work my way through my DVD collection and hold onto the vague hope that something will turn up like a good penny. On that note, anyone got any suggestions that could bring me out of this film quality desert?

I really think in most formats, be it music, television or film, the lack of original ideas and the large number of remakes is staggering! What makes it worse for me are the remakes that are never as good as the classic originals! Oh well there are ‘some’ good media around, you just have to dig very hard to find them…
Thing is digging shouldn’t be part of it when there is so much potential not being tapped. Ah well, another of life’s frustrations I guess. Mutter.
