Taking the **** too far

I am all for hygiene but sometimes you can take it that touch too far Don’t be that toilet guy. Can anyone else say obsessive compulsive disorder?

Cookie Monster

I am a fully paid up member of the cookie club. I love cookies, their doughy sweetness always leaves me wanting more. Everyone has their favourite, for me it is the raisin and oatmeal ones with that subtle hint of cinnamon (not too much as to put your tastebuds on red alert, but enough to give you that hmmm sensation). You might have just gathered my cookie monster leanings run deeper than a triple chocolate extra squigy dough delight cookie.

Ruby day

If you know Ruby on Rails then a great competition is Rails Day 2006. A nice concept of developing something as an individual or team in 24 hours as part of a competition. Another reason for me to finally get around to ready that Ruby book and getting to grips in time for next year. I just love these 24 hour coding competitions myself so will be looking with interest to seeing what the entries are.

Strength in numbers part deux

I wrote a short time ago a post about my reasons for believing that blogging networks were a good thing becuase their was Strength in Numbers. Part of that post was about wanting to join 9rules, but the belief I have in the fact that there is strength in numbers goes beyond that. As a freelancer, it can all get a bit lonely and you can feel like some lone rider in a tabled inaccessible world. Lost with nothing to do but go from one project to another and with only your messaging link to the world. In starting a small business freelancer has to be all things to their client and looking or even farming out your weaker areas seems just a loss of money.

Bugged screen

The importance of play

There is a recognised fact that play amongst children is a place where they develop a whole range of skills. Just as you played as a child, playing as a web designer or developer is also essential to growth. Giving yourself space to experiment and play is not always the easiest of things. There are times when you have to just focus on bringing money in and play seems about the furthest planet next to completing the dealine and left of a series of all nighters. Balancing time to play might seem like something not worth the time or the money you will not be earning. This is a bad move though as you can often find you increase your ability and even find new ways to finance your time through play.
