Just before I fall asleep at the keyboard, I would like to quickly announce the launch of the new Diary of a website flavour for the reboot. A fair bit has changed and a fair bit is going to probably be tweaked over the next few days. I will also do a more indepth post regarding the new design and functions.

Late night launching
As the sun comes up over England
Today really felt like Summer was around the corner and Spring is firmly here. I am always my most productive during the sunnier times. I am not the only person who feels this way about a little ray of light into my life. Maybe it is being born in the Summer or something, I just come alive in the spring and summer and slowly hiberate through autumn until a practical stand still at Winter.
That painful halfway point
With the approach of freelancedom and another reboot, I have today reached that oh so common half way point in projects. For me, this point is defined by a combination of nose to the grind stone and mild panic. Of course, I will be meeting deadlines, that is not the point. I guess, I am just the sort of person that has to feel that buzz of panic once in a while. I always get this a few weeks before the end of a batch of work. Usually, the surge of argh late late comes during a juggling attempt with a range of websites. In many respects it is this panic (usually for no reason) that pushes me on to meet the deadlines that are looming. I often wish I would not do this to myself.
Spamaway?
In my review of this site and sorting in time for the reboot, I have found one main area the focus of my developmentl; the commenting. As with all blogs I have found that my comments lack from a user and spam preventing aspect. Only today I cleared down a pile of steaming spam and returned to poke my server a few hours later to find the spam dog had laid another pile of doo in my absense. It is an age old blogging problem that you can goggle until your heart is content. The answers are varied in practice and extremes. There is the case for turning of comments all together, but personally I find talking to myself wears thin. So, I have been looking at other ways.
Reinventing wheels
A lot of the job as a web designer never pans out how you anticipate it. Most when they start out think they will end up working for websites where anything is possible and there is a elastic budget the size of America. One of the major things that soon becomes clear is a lot of your time will be in some way or the other reinventing the wheel. This can be in the developer side of creating an application or through taking branding or another site and reinventing it. Quick into any web design career you realise that the idea of having a blank canvas to design with is an illusion and the vast majority of it is taking something and developing it into a usable site.
