I firmly believe that a great percentage of web development is about blind determination. Those moments when you without relent bash your head against code which insists on having one elusive error. In these times the usual crutches of loud music, coffee, nicotine and chocolate just do not cut through the agony of a parsing error.

Who would you say was the most important person in any website project? the designer, developer, client or the user? Really, when it comes down to any project the most important person is the user. Without users websites are pretty much pointless. Yes, they look pretty and show how great you are at CSS and might be making the client go “oh and ah”. When it comes down to it though as with most things the proof in any website is not the pudding but in use. Therefore, this makes the user the most important person in any website.

Tags seem to have been around for ages, but really they have only in a minor form. Tags on the web were once confined to your bookmarks and now seem everywhere. I admit to being a bit of tagoholic. This is probably due to a slight anal retentive [ insert school girl sniggering here ] disposition. I am one of those people that really does organise everything. I seriously think it might be something you are born with, like the strange desire some men have to wear their trousers up around their arm pits. Erm or something like that. So tag it, use it, sort it, rinse and repeat.

For a while, I have split my online blogging between my personal and this blog. It worked originally and all was well, however I now find that I want DOW to become my entire home. I have come to believe that although it can be hard, you can infact be yourself on and offline. As part of this, the next flavour of DOW is going to have an addition. So, welcome to dog food. Why the title? Well, back when I wrote my about page and used the phrase "this blog will not be about what my dog had for dinner". Well, dog food is not going to be about my dog (nice as she is), it is a place for me to sound off, rant, bounce and generally just be me. I have grown lax with my focus on DOW and the measure I took of the daily DOW really did not work.

Now for something from Andy Budd and Glenn Joneswho have released in beta mapsurface, a statistics widget. Rather nice little thing to have a play with it is too as you can display the referrers and use link behaviour on your site. Of course I use mint, but it is a nice little widget none the less and having something on dashboard is nice.

I have been having quite a tough time over one site I am working on. It is for the 360 gaming website. First off there was a solid idea that went out in the first version, however the more and more I stared at it the more sure I was something was not right. So, I have gone back to the drawing board on it and with a concept in mind hit a bit of a brick wall. In some cases the simple processes you set up to avoid design block just do not work. This was my experience with this site, so turned to the old asking the person designing it for (mate so I can ask them) for inspiration. As a result got a great cd full of goodies to get my designerdar back online. I will be using it as the first website I work on once I get my replacement powerbook.
