A new wiki is born

Thanks to Oxton we can now not only "do an Oxton", now we can also do a "fuckcast". What is a fuckcast well just listen to it. It is Oxton’s way of getting lurchers to post; comments equaling 100 unique lead to the birth of the fuckcast. Somehow I think this should have been a friday activity.

Where is the accessibility line?

Accessibility is constantly a main point it seems in web design – rightly so really when you think about it. A article by Clagnut highlights one area a lot of web designers (me too included often) do not consider, colour blindness. It makes you realise how in this age of web standards and accessibility we get caught up in only a small percentage we should be really considering. The question is where should the line be drawn really. Makes me recall the blah% don’t use flash and blah% use 800 by 600 to view web sites on their acorn electrons. Where the line is drawn really is a point for debate. So where do you think the line should be drawn?

A team is only as good as the last communication

There is a phrase I was reminded of last night :
" A director is only as good as his last result."
Today I experienced the frustration that working in a team creates when there is a lack of communication. As a result I would like to offer a team alternative:
"A team is only as good as the last communication."
It is true as today has proved for me. Above anything really no matter what type of team it is, comes communication. Loose communication and quickly watch the team jenga fall over. Maybe this you will think is a rather obvious comment, just think about how many times it has become a problem in your life and realise the obvious is often the most overlooked. I am now off to point out that it is cold in January in the UK.

Is being you wrong?

In a galaxy far far away in a distant time before blogging, most websites spoke in the third person. This was a time before web standards and common sense where rotating gifs ruled the ways helped along by hit counters. Then something strange happened and the web became personalised. More and more people began to drop the royal we and opt for the personal touch.

Just because I am a web designer…..

A recent post on molly.com asked to list titles for books that you’d buy. I came across this today after another day of being expected to know everything about anything with a micro chip in it. I think I need some t-shirt with my answer written on it. Anyways, I was promoted to come up with the following title:
Just because I am a web designer doesn’t mean I am a networking expert
Anyone else going to amen that for me?

Newsvine lurker bribe

Thanks to a good mate Ricky, I am now starting to enjoy newsvine. So far it appears to basically be a news aggregator in sense that you can comment, add, rate and even have your own news page. Seems a nice mix of digg, rss and other online news blogging. As part of sign up you get some free invites as this is currently in beta. So, for a little offer I am going to give out an invite to the first 10 people to comment on this blog. Just tell me a little something about yourself.
