Sticky overload

Ok, ok, you can have too many stickies. I just reached maximum sticky mass on my desktop (that really doesn’t sound how it did in my head). A while ago in an attempt to save a few trees I moved onto digital stickies. All was going well until the sticky build up. Today, I couldn’t stand not seeing my desktop anymore and have been looking for another solution. So, in a world where stickies are a need (I am obsessed) what is there as an option?

Enter the world of outlining and mapping. I have been introduced to this before through OmniOutliner on the mac. For the record I love it, but as I spend time between both the imac and the vaio I needed some anti-sticky solution for my vaio. Enter a little careware software called Skwyrul PRO.

For start let me state I still have the linux hankerings that lead me to love the notion of carebear ware – if you have enough donate to a charity or just be nice to someone. It tags at my love beads a bit and gives that warm fuzzy ah you care feeling. That aside, this is one nice simple and effective tool on first view. It might not have some of the uber mapping functionality of other bloated wares, but it does the job so far.

In case you don’t know basically a great deal of this mapping or outlining tools use a tree structure. Basically think of it as in the simpliest form; a combination of to do lists, windows explorer and thought outliner. For instance, you can create a thought or idea and attach parts to it. This would work for me in the case of a website and all the ideas, the design, the code structure and then even the navigation. It really is a nice way to work out anything and get the mass of randomness into a structure. The aim is of course to save time and organise. This way of thinking appeals to me and really isn’t just for the coders as proven by the growing interest in the outlining and mapping realm. The interest driven through such success as OmniOutliner.

While Skwyrul will never be on the same level as OmniOutliner – I really wish that was one tool that was avaliable on windows and mac but there we go. Skwyrul is a nice paired down way for me to have some logic in my windows space. So far so good and I am no longer overly sticky.
