Ok, so maybe I was a bit asleep this week (and the last) as I didn’t notice the change in the macromedia website last week. This point aside macromedia has well and truly been given an adobe makeover.
It is a good example of corporate branding applied across the board but in a way that is sympathetic to the format. It takes the components that the old site provided and covers them in adobe brand. I am not sure I really like the result as it is a bit of a frankenstein. It is clear, it is branded and it is probably going to take a bit of getting used to.
This corporate branding reminds me again of the importance of this as a tool for any company. You certainly now can identify macromedia as part of the adobe company – kind of brings it all home really. I am still not sure what this is going to mean for some of the range. Personally, I do think fireworks is going to go the way of freehand and dreamweaver is going to stay. It might be a bit lazy but it is a damn fine tool really. Although I always have an inside hankering for the good ole notepad days.
