Pan au chocolat design

It’s funny what influences a designer. Not funny as in ha ha though – with me I have come to the conclusion it is funny as in “can we have a straight jacket for Mrs Lister please”. Take today – and considering the amount of php I’ve bashed through please take it . . . anyway. This morning I gained my influence for design not through some wonderful site, not through the little book of icon design, not even through the pages of some css showcase. No, this morning it was a pan au chocolat.

I guess we all have our rituals and for me it’s the sunday pan au chocolat and cappucino. I was devistated to find that the nearest decent coffee is miles away since moving to the middle of nowhere in middle england, investment in a coffee maker is highy on prioty now as having to make do with packet stuff (it isn’t the same don’t let em tell you any different). Sunday is normally the day after a rather heavy night whacking some php and css into line. So, for me the day of rest usually results in more code strain; the morning is started right with this ritual of mine.

I have a design to do and somehow I drew inspiration from the shape and the texture of my pan au chocolat. It isn’t unusual for me as I appear to get inspiration from the strangest of objects. I remember one site designed on the basis of tracing paper, one on those bug stickers you used to get with the big feet and there was the screw incident when it all came because I had to undo my computer and thought the screw was rather interesting.

Designers are inspired by the oddest things. I can’t believe it’s just me – maybe that is just a river in egypt; but I like to think I’m not the only weirdo staring blankly at a pan au chocolat thinking .chocolat { color: . . .
