For me, it’s always a sign that I’ve got a lot done when all day I’ve drunk cold coffee and the ash tray is full. The signs vary depending on if you vices such as smoking, coffee or even boiled sweet crunching. I think everyone knows when they’ve had a good day designing.
Your itunes has been stuck on radio or random, your back hurts, eyes feel like someone has glued then half shut, the signs are numerous. The main one and first indicator is the that cold coffee – suitable in summer but somehow just wrong in the middle of an english autumn.
Another sign I often have is a back that feels like I’ve been doing pogo stick yoga. This is due to the chair I have fallen in love with; it was from a skip and a pre-student recovery. This chair is old, battered and one wheel falls off if you sneeze in it’s direction. I would have replaced it a long time ago apart from one design feature that there just seems a lack of. This chair is large enough to sit cross legged in and sit upright at the computer. I have a high desk and this slots under with my legs buddah style. It’s a great position, if not often resulting in pins and needles jumping around room dance performanaces.
So, today I have the pins and needles dance, the cold coffee, the full to brimming ashtray, the glued eyes and feeling like I’ve licked 10,000 envelopes. At least I can feel secure in feeling I’ve obviously had a very productive day.
The future is brighter as thanks to an online forum competition I now have a mug warmer. It’s a nice thing and lovely and shiny. It works sort of, but there is a limit and I still have about 60% of the time with cold coffee. So I guess a 40% warm coffee gain is a good thing. Just hope that doesn’t mean I’m now 40% less productive.
